Join Backcountry Women for a practical clinic to help build your navigation confidence. Knowing some basic orienteering skills will empower you to be more self-sufficient when exploring the great outdoors!


Format: 1 hour clinic + practical practice session afterwards, where we'll join the Manitoba Orienteering Association for their event (1 hour maximum).

In this workshop we will learn:

  • basic skills to get you started with navigation
  • identifying map features and terrain to help to know where you are
  • implementing use of paper maps 
  • orienteering skills and practice. We'll use a map / compass to find our way to various markers.
  • practicing skills at navigating

What's included:

- We will provide printed maps.

- Compasses will be available if you would like to borrow one.

- An individual Orienteering Manitoba membership ($5) is included in your registration fee, plus a $10 Orienteering Manitoba adult event fee.


Location: Kildonan Park. Specific details, important information, and the meeting location will be sent out in reminder email(s) prior to the event. 

Time: Please arrive at 5:45pm (or sooner!) so we can begin promptly.

Participants are asked to bring: 

  • Notebook + pen

  • Appropriate layers for the weather and changing conditions
  • Water
