  • Afternoon (Vernon Nature Area) - scenic hike, mini workshops including safety info, gear tips, building confidence, trail etiquette, snacks, and more!
  • Morning (Rabbit Lake) - meet and greet, coffee, paddling, turning practice, and more!

DEADLINE TO REGISTER: BY MIDNIGHT, ONE DAY BEFORE THE EVENT (July 19)

Calling all women adventurers! Backcountry Women and Mosswood Adventures are teaming up for a unique experience in beautiful Kenora, Ontario during the July 20-21 weekend. This women-focused event offers the chance to explore the tranquility of Rabbit Lake on a relaxing paddle journey, followed by an afternoon hike through Vernon Nature Trails with a focus on self-sufficiency skills.

Choose Your Day (Both days offer the same activities):

  • Saturday, July 20th
  • Sunday, July 21st (click here for the event registration for this date instead)

All you have to do is register for a date that best fits your schedule. We will have half and full day options available for each day!

MORE DETAILS:

Morning Schedule | 9:30AM - 12:00PM | Rabbit Lake

  • 9:30 AM: Meet & Greet with coffee at Kenora Rowing Club (travel mugs encouraged!), introductions, and activity overview.
  • 10:00 AM: Gear up and receive a paddling introduction.
  • 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM: Guided paddle on Rabbit Lake, including turning practice and self-rescue tips. Explore the beauty of the lake on a variety of watercrafts, including stand-up paddleboards (including a large party board for fun!) and kayaks (depending on wind conditions).
  • 11:20 AM: Wrap up the paddle session and enjoy lunch.

Afternoon Schedule | 1:00 - 3:30PM | Vernon Nature Area

  • 1:00 PM: Meet at the Vernon Nature Area parking lot for activity overview.
  • 1:15 PM: Mini-workshop chat #1: Learn about hiking etiquette, leave-no-trace principles, and essential gear for a safe and comfortable hike.
  • 1:45 PM: Begin your hike on the scenic trails, enjoying approximately 30 minutes of nature exploration.
  • 2:15 PM: Mini-workshop chat #2: Gain valuable knowledge on trip planning, map reading, safety considerations, and creating an emergency plan.
  • 2:45 PM: Snack break to refuel.
  • 3:30 PM: Continue the scenic hike. Arrive back at the trail parking lot.

The cost of the event includes all paddling equipment / safety gear, coffee (AM only), and a knowledgeable event leader. If you require any gear for hiking we have several options available through our gear lending library.

*We're adding some exciting extras, like snacks, to the event – stay tuned for more details! In the meantime, if you're looking for a place to stay nearby, don't hesitate to reach out for recommendations. For a casual hangout spot on Saturday evening, we plan to meet up at Cottage Time Public House at 6:00 pm, and welcome any participants joining one of our weekend activities!*
