PART II – Dehydrating Your Own Food

Make your own delicious, nutritious dehydrated snacks and meals for your next backcountry trip. In this workshop we’ll cover the ins and outs of dehydrating to make your food the talk of the trail. Join the conversation as we discuss:

  • What to look for in a dehydrator and what accessories are helpful
  • What foods can and can’t be dehydrated
  • Dehydrating full meals vs individual ingredients
  • How to prepare and dry different foods
  • How to know if food is dried safely
  • How to store dried food and how to pack it for trips
  • How to re-hydrate and cook food on the trail
  • Tips, tricks and favorite recipes from the trail


Facilitator Getty Stewart

Getty is an experienced backcountry enthusiast who enjoys extended hiking, kayaking and canoe trips as much as she loves good food. When not outdoors, this Professional Home Economist writes and teaches about growing, cooking and preserving local, seasonal foods. Time & location: The workshop begins promptly at 7:00 PM CST. This will be an interactive online workshop that will run approximately 2 hours. Participants will need a free Zoom account. Further instructions will be emailed out to participants; please download and test your account access prior to the date of the workshop. Participants will receive the course handout prior to the workshop.
