DEADLINE TO REGISTER: BY MIDNIGHT, TWO DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT (AUG. 16)

Happy Trails Hikes are about movement, connection and getting out on the trails in or around Winnipeg during the week. This series of hikes, happening select Tuesday evenings until December, is open to all levels and designed to connect us with others. Some hikes will have a theme and others are just an opportunity to get active outdoors while connecting with like-minded women from the Backcountry Women community.

Event leader: Jessica Burtnick accompanied by Reggie the Siberian husky.

There will be a dog accompanying this hike. If you don’t have a dog or puppy friend of your own, this is a great opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of an animal companion! If you are uncomfortable around or allergic to dogs, we highly recommend you check out one of our other Happy Trails Hikes as this hike may not be the right fit for you.

Arrival Time: 6:45 PM. We will begin the hike no later than 7:15 PM. The time arranged allows for you to have time to attend to personal needs such as organizing your gear and for the event leader to share information with the group.

Location: Bois-des-esprits is a 117-acre urban forest in Winnipeg that has many interesting features, including tree carvings and wildlife. Details of meetup location will be sent to registered participants.

Overall Difficulty Rating: Due to the factors mentioned below, this activity is rated a 1/5.

This rating is subject to change based on prevailing conditions at the time of the activity, including but not limited to weather.

Duration/Distance: Approximately 3.3 km. This trail takes about 1-1.5 hours to complete with breaks to take photos and enjoy the urban greenspace.
Experience: All skill levels are welcome. You should have the ability to walk with the group (while physically distancing) at a moderate, steady pace for the duration of the activity. Appropriate footwear and layered clothing is required.
Terrain: Relatively flat with gravel and dirt trails that pass through an urban forest along the Seine River. It can be muddy in some areas with some ups and downs near the river.
Pace: This activity will be at a steady, moderate pace.

This hike permits a limited number of registered participants to bring their well-behaved dogs, on a first-come-first-served basis. If you want to bring your dog, please select the “Member Registration with Dog” option at time of registration; you will be required to check-in with the event leader once registered, prior to the event. For more info on dogs at our events, please read our FAQ page.

Further details will be provided to registered participants. Participants are responsible for having a valid email address, communicating with the event organizer regarding any changes in attendance, and for checking email prior to an event.

In light of the global pandemic, we are cautiously proceeding, allowing only a small number of participants at each event. We will need your cooperation in only signing up for events you can truly commit to attending. If you miss out on registering please get yourself registered on the waitlist. We also ask for everyone's cooperation and patience as we all adjust! Please see our policy and safety practices here.

This event allows cancellation no less than 5 days before start of event. If you are no longer able to attend, please see our No Show Policy.
